New bridge

The Bethel Island bridge is going to be replaced. When we arrived here in 1979 we were told that the bridge was “at the end of its lifespan.” It was built in 1948.

We kept anticipating a replacement any minute.
C.C. Myers arrived late last month and action is beginning.

We are going to have a front row seat. We can go out on our balcony and lean way out and see the C.C. Myers yard. Lots of big equipment has arrived.
The bridge replacement is going to take 20 months. I will post pictures of the construction as it goes along.

  2. And where is your house in that big picture? Inquiring minds want to know. :-)

  3. We live two blocks to the right of the bridge in the clump of trees.

  4. Big construction like that sure can be interesting. Do you know yet if they are bringing in large, pre-made-else-where, sections?

We 'watched' the 2nd Narrows Bridge in progress and some times it was amazing to see what they were doing! Of course the Narrows is a bit different than yours, Galloping Gerty is one of the most famous movie clips you can see, on the Discovery Channel! LOL

  5. I laughed at Vicky's comment. Galloping Gerty must be a universal name for things that take off. Cars used to have that nickname when I was a child. Or a woman who travelled a lot, got the same nickname!
'They' keep telling us our infra structure is due for replacement, but 'they' delay the replacing, until there is a fatal accident. Glad that is not happening in the Bridge's case!!
