Long Way to Go

I still have miles and miles and miles to walk, but I’ve been so good with my program which started February 2, 2007.

Long lines to sew before Tuesday. I’m trying to get this quilted and bound and photographed for the “Going Around In Circles, Again” pattern. Why did I decide to hand quilt it when I am in a hurry?

Is This Derivative of Stella?

There has been a discussion about the artist Frank Stella on the QuiltArt list. I did not know who Stella was. There is an upcoming auction at Christie's for a painting of his. The auction estimates are $900,000 to $1,200,000.

I probably won't be bidding on Stella's painting.

I wonder if Christie's would be interested in my quilt? Perhaps they would dismiss it as an amateur attempt copying Frank Stella.

Hand Me the Towel

Vicky and I are comparing objects in our kitchens and bathrooms. We don’t know each other, except online. We have never met but we have similar odd things in our lives. She has a ceramic hand in her bathroom holding up some lights. I use one as a towel holder (look closely and see the ring) in mine.


Many people on our island are very interested in the new Delta Coves project.
There was a meeting last night at Scout Hall, our community center. Less than two thousand people live on the island now, and the build-out of Delta Coves will bring another thousand.
My handsome, silver-haired husband is front and center.

Kitchen Window Objects

Vicky had some pictures of her kitchen window collection on her blog the other day. I thought that was a good idea for a blog post.

The stuff on the shelf is seen every day. Every week the objects are picked up and dusted and the shelf is cleaned. The objects go back in their places. But, why are they there? Why do we put things on the kitchen window shelf?

The pig with the basket on the far left is over 100 years old. It came from my grandfather’s house. The ceramic hand was supposed to be put up for a soap dish, but we have not managed that yet. The red pig is Robert’s mother’s piggy bank. It used to have a rich patina gathered over the years but one day the cleaning ladies scrubbed it all off. The pig on the right is a modern ceramic container.

What objects do you have on your kitchen shelf? I challenge you to snap a picture and post it. No fair cleaning up first, just shoot what you have. Try to figure out why they are there.

My New Neighbor

I’ve lived on this peaceful little island for 28 years and nothing much happens here, but now we are getting a new neighbor called Delta Coves.

Big time construction is going on in my neck of the woods. Life will be changing soon.

Not Granny's Double Wedding Ring Quilt

I love this! It brings to mind the bamboo forests of China. Somehow I’m going to incorporate a Panda. I picked up the fresh greens March 21 and started making circles. To show how the circles can be placed on striped fabric (no curved piecing, no “melons” or “footballs”) I went back to my LQS and found this marvelous fabric.
It is Robert Kaufman’s “Portraits of the Wild,” screen print D# 4235. I only bought two yards so I’d better go back before they sell out.
