The neighbor’s cat O.C. (Orange Cat) comes by in the morning and climbs in the planter bed and sits right on the carrot section. What is he trying to do? He stretches out and goes to sleep until we chase him away.
Did you ever read the book Horton Hatches the Egg? Perhaps O.C. is trying to hatch the carrots, but he is squishing their tops. This will not work.
I bet OC likes the carrots because they are ferny and soft, like him. Maybe you [Robert] could poke some sticks in around the carrots. You could decorate the sticks! Wrap with fabric strips, or paint them.
We are born to cloth. It is the second thing we touch after our mother.
I am a quilter. My first memory is a Noah’s Ark quilt. Mr. and Mrs. Noah, the Ark, and all the animals walking toward the boat on a curving path, were appliquéd on it. The back of the quilt was yellow with red flowers. I could re-draw that quilt today from memory.
I didn’t know I was a quilter until 1994. Before that I had a huge fabric collection.

Or try a wire "carrot dome" made from chicken or rabbit wire. Guess I can't fault O.C., a nice soft bed of carrot tops sounds mighty nice.
Vicky and Del,
Very good ideas. Thanks.
Novel ways to deal with the problem.
Thanks for a much needed laugh!
